The diet should be supplemented with fresh fruits and vegetables daily to add variety and psychological enrichment. High protein pelleted diet is an excellent staple diet for cockatoos or a weaning food can also be fed. FeedingĬockatoos should be fed a formulated (pelleted or extruded) diet as a basis for good nutrition. Young cockatoos should be socialized to many people and exposed to a variety of situations such as new cages, toys, visits to the veterinarian, handling by friends, and wing and nail clips to avoid fear of novel situations. In order to ensure safety, companion cockatoos should not be allowed unsupervised freedom in the home as they often encounter toxins or dangerous items. They should always be provided with toys, blocks of wood or branches that they can chew. Medium sulphur-crested cockatoos are playful and inquisitive and they love to chew objects in their surroundings. They have blue-eye rings and a smaller beak than the triton. The crest feathers spread out and up when the crest is erect. The only other color is yellow on the insides of the wings. Medium sulphur-cresteds are large white cockatoos with recurved yellow crests and the tips that curl upward. Medium sulphur-cresteds and other cockatoo species can be very long lived and a few individuals in zoos have lived up to 50 to 60 years. This behavior is often learned when young birds hear the morning or afternoon screaming of another cockatoo. They are however quite vocal and many birds lose their home due to loud screaming.
While medium sulphur-cresteds will occasionally speak, they are not known for their ability to mimic. Wild cockatoos feed on nuts, seeds, berries and insects. They are most active in early morning and late afternoon. They inhabit lowland forests, especially mature canopy forests along rivers. Medium sulphur-crested cockatoos ( Cacatua galerita eleanora) are found on the Aru and Kai Islands in the northern Maluku province of Indonesia. Medium sulphur-cresteds tend to be demanding of attention and if they are deprived of attention can become noisy and destructive or turn to plucking or self-mutilation behavior. They are excellent companions for those who want a charming, loving bird that likes to cuddle. Those canyons do have a way of working magic.Medium sulphur-crested cockatoos, also known as Eleanora cockatoos, are affectionate, playful and highly intelligent birds. And who knows? Maybe the peace of the clear skies will seep into him, and he’ll decide being a country bumpkin might not be such a bad idea after all. But he’s very smart, very good-looking, and on the lookout for a home. Sunshine loves to scream and is just a bit unruly. So now he rejoices in picking up sticks with his beak and running at Seppi! This makes our usually brave Seppi hightail it into his cage to hide. He found out that Seppi, a much larger parrot, is scared of sticks. However … he doesn’t seem too impressed by how tough the Feathered Friends neighborhood is. And at last, he’s landed! Teasing another parrot Then Best Friends sent someone to Boston to bring him to his new country "home between homes" at the sanctuary. Then, a generous Best Friends member (though that’s redundant!) donated frequent flyer miles. First, Foster Parrots in Boston held him and got all of his health certificates together for traveling. Parrot's journey to the Sanctuaryīest Friends accepted the medium sulfur-crested cockatoo, but getting him here took a lot of teamwork.
The family really loved him, and so they agreed. Parrots are so active and curious that when a friend came over and noticed how confined he was, she felt terrible for the guy and offered to try to find him a better place. Sunshine’s little corner of it was just as cramped as could be. He was well-loved by his family, but the truth was, the apartment was barely large enough for the family to live in comfortably. Before this, he was living in a Boston housing project. The country and the canyons sure must seem strange to a city slicker like Sunshine. Does anyone get the feeling that Sunshine, the new cockatoo at Best Friends, thinks the folks and animals here are all a bunch of country bumpkins? "Yeah, and he’s in the know!" laughed a bird staffer.
